As we have throughout the pandemic, Santa Barbara Unified will continue to adhere to the guidance set forth by the state and county departments of Public Health as it pertains to schools.

Please contact your school office for information on assistance with completing this process. Instructions can also be found by visiting the district’s Enrollment/Registration webpage.

Instructional Options 2021-2022:
We know that in person school is the optimal learning environment for our students. We are no longer offering Distance Learning for the 2021/22 school year. New legislation (AB130) requires that school districts offer Independent Study for any student not attending in-person instruction. The options for Independent Study include the following:

  • Grades TK-3: Students will have the opportunity for daily synchronous instruction (two-way, live instruction with a teacher); may be multi-grade level
  • Grades 4-8: Students will have the opportunity for daily live interaction with a staff member and weekly synchronous instruction (two-way live instruction with a teacher); may be multi-grade level
  • Grades 9-12: Students will have the opportunity for weekly synchronous instruction (two-way live instruction with a teacher)
  • Independent Study Programs will be offered at a districtwide level - not through a student’s school of residence.

AB104: Important new legislation on Grade Changes/Retention:  New legislation allows families to request that their child be retained (AB104) . We will communicate more details on this in the coming days. Please refer to the following FORM to request a letter grade-change to Pass/No Pass.

Masks Requirement: Per state Public Health guidance, all students and staff are required to wear masks indoors while on school campuses. Outdoors, masks are optional and not required.

Vaccinations: We encourage vaccinations for all people who are eligible to receive one. At this time, only people 12 and older are eligible. A vaccination is not required to attend school. Free walk-in vaccination clinics locations found HERE.

Food Services: All students 18 and under will receive free breakfast and lunch, regardless of income status. No meal application is required.

We look forward to seeing our students on the first day of school on Tuesday, August 17.

If you need additional support or have questions, please contact your school office.
