Dear families, students and staff.
You may already be aware that at a Special School Board meeting on Thursday evening, our board approved a resolution requiring that all Santa Barbara Unified employees be vaccinated against COVID-19. Read more information about this important new policy HERE. At last night’s meeting we had a chance to hear from parents, teachers, health experts and the public. I would like to reiterate that our commitment to keeping students IN school is unwavering and preventing the spread of the highly contagious Delta Variant is one of our biggest challenges.
I know that I am joined by administrators, teachers and staff when I tell you that the Delta variant changed the way we look at Covid and the impact it has on children. I am very proud of the close to 88% of total staff who have been vaccinated as they contribute to the overall well-being of our community, our classrooms and to their own families.
I have been asked with such a high rate of vaccinated staff why do we need to have all the rest be vaccinated? I have thought long and hard about this question. The truth is that because those who are immunocompromised or age 11 or younger cannot be vaccinated - we need those who can to contribute to the overall well-being by also getting vaccinated.
PCR Testing Results Delay
We wanted to alert our community that we received notice from Valencia Branch Laboratories that they are experiencing delays in the processing of PCR tests. This delay has impacted our students and staff members awaiting results for tests taken on September 20th and September 21st. For anyone in that situation, you may wish to seek a PCR test from a local pharmacy, doctor or other source. The lab has informed us that they will be back on track next week.
