Board Meeting Participation Changes, COVID Newsletter & New Video, By-Trustee Area Elections, and more!

Leiha Dulawan

Dear staff, students and families,

October has arrived which indicates the midway point for the Fall term. Our teachers are beginning to assess student progress and will be communicating with families soon. I hope everyone has enjoyed the much-needed rainy weather.

I am pleased to bring you the following key updates and information:

Board Meeting Participation

We are making an adjustment to how the public participates in school board meetings as a result of AB361. Please be aware of the following:

  • Board meeting agendas are posted within 72 hours prior to the meeting start-time. Meetings are streamed live on YouTube HERE or can be viewed via Zoom Webinar. A reminder that in order to promote social distancing and prioritize the public’s health and well-being, board meetings are not open to the general public. These protocols will be reviewed every 30 days. Check the agenda for Zoom link details prior to each meeting.
  • Public speakers will no longer need to pre-register to address items on the agenda. Per AB361, members of the public wishing to speak must “raise their hand” in the Zoom Webinar platform by selecting the virtual hand icon during the presentation of that item, and may do so at any time while public comment remains open for the item. (More specific instructions will be provided on the agenda).
  • All board meetings are recorded and available for viewing on our website and on our Youtube channel.

Please review the following statement from local Public Health officials regarding the use of teleconferencing as a social distancing measure to facilitate participation in public meetings.

COVID Information & Resources

In response to your questions about COVID Response protocols in school settings, watch our new VIDEO which explains the most frequent scenarios:

Transition from At-Large School Board Elections to Trustee-Area Elections

Our district has begun the process of transitioning to by-trustee area school board elections. Please reference our website for all relevant details, including proposed trustee area maps, a timeline, frequently asked questions & answers, and opportunities to provide input via community meetings and a survey. A public hearing on this topic is scheduled for our Tuesday, October 12, 2021 regular school board meeting.

2022-2023 School Year Calendar: Proposed start and end dates
