The Mission of the Santa Barbara Unified School District is to prepare students for a world that is yet to be created. Every decision we make is made with students at the center. Assistant Superintendent
John A. Becchio, Ed.D.

Dr. Becchio was born in Santa Barbara, CA and grew up in Carpinteria, California and Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology form Arizona State University and also attended the University of Granada, in Granada, Spain and minored in Spanish. 

Dr. Becchio was born in Santa Barbara, CA, went to high school and college in Arizona, and graduated from Arizona State University with a pre med Bachelor of science degree.  After attending the University of Granada in Granada, Spain and working as an English instructor for employees of international corporations in Costa Rica, Dr Becchio returned to Santa Barbara and began a teaching career teaching woodshop, health, and PE while he pursued a Masters in Educational Leadership from Cal State Northridge. He later served as an assistant principal at three different junior high schools in Santa Barbara and then in 2006 landed his first principalship at Santa Barbara Junior High, serving in that role for 5 years. In 2011, Dr. Becchio took on the principal position at Santa Barbara High School where he led that school for 7 years

In 2016 Dr. Becchio received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Chicago and his research on teacher self-efficacy and evaluations has been published in the Journal of School Leadership and the Journal of School Administration Research and Development. In 2018 he became the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Santa Barbara Unified and continues to serve in that role today.
