The Educational Services department is inclusive of Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) Services support. Director of Educational Equity & Multilingual Learner Services works collaboratively with all SBUSD schools to support EMLs with equity and access to an excellent education.

Director of Educational Equity & Multilingual Services
Dr. Deborah Martinez 

Dr. Martinez has more than 20 years of experience in education varying at the elementary, junior high and higher education levels. She was an elementary and junior high teacher for 12 years and was recognized as Distinguished Teacher of the Year by the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) in 2011. Her administrative experience includes serving as an elementary Assistant Principal, K-12 Coordinator of English Learner Services and K-6th Principal. She served diverse socio-economic populations in various instructional programs including Early Exit Bilingual Education, Dual Language Immersion, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and Positive Behavioral Intervention Support systems. She also has experience in adult learning as an adjunct professor in higher education within the teacher credentialing programs.
