During the summer, some of our high school students volunteer to facilitate camps and programs to engage younger students in summertime educational opportunities. One of these programs this year is being organized by two sisters: Michelle and Sophia Qin, students at Dos Pueblos High School. The Qins are a part of Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy and have won the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing award. Their program entitled “Coding Together” is focused on working with 5th to 11th grade girls, teaching them to learn to use MIT’s programming tool Scratch and Google Computer Science programs at Dos Pueblos High School. According to NCWIT, by 2024, 1.1 million computing-related job openings are expected. We celebrate our high school student’s initiative to be innovative by providing opportunities to explore, grow, and learn the field of computer science.
