Monroe’s art teacher Shannon Jaffee, known for her mural on Cabrillo Boulevard with the Postcards of Santa Barbara Project, championed a renovation project of the Monroe Elementary Mustang Mural and helped organize a rededication ceremony featuring student artwork. The initial mural dedication was in 2002, and the mural had suffered weather damage. Beth Amine, the original director of the mural, participated in the restoration project launched this year. Over 75 students worked over 8 weeks to bring back to life the mural’s artistic scene featuring Santa Barbara in the night and day time as well as various horses and creatures representing the different types of students in the school. Approximately 200 people watched our Facebook LIVE video of the Monroe Elementary Mustang Mural rededication ceremony and student art showcase. Watch the video below that included some of the students talking about their work.
