Congratulations to La Colina and Santa Barbara Junior High students that received 5 of the 8 Santa Barbara county awards at the California State Science Fair. The 2017 California State Science Fair was held on April 24-25 at the California Science Center. This year there was 927 participants from 400 schools throughout the State presenting 814 projects in competition for nearly $60,000 in total awards. Santa Barbara Unified School District student award recipients include:

  • Sydney Carlson (La Colina Junior High), 3rd place, Zoology
  • Mia Chou (La Colina Junior High) 3rd place, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences
  • Zoe Flanagin (Santa Barbara Junior High) 4th place, Cognitive Science
  • Neve Greenwald (La Colina Junior High), 2nd place, Materials Science
  • Li F Meinhold (La Colina Junior High), 2nd place Toxicology
  • Honorable Mention:
    • Austin Roberts (La Colina Junior. High) Honorable Mention Zoology
    • Rachel Lin (Goleta Valley Junior High) Honorable Mention Physics & Astronomy
