Goleta Valley Junior High Technology Students Strike Gold at UCSB’s MESA Day

Students at UCSBSaturday, March 4 was an exciting day of STEM activities for Mr. Moore’s MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) Team who attended the 18th annual event. After motivational talks from Raytheon Engineer Juan Zepeda and Assemblymember Monique Limon, students were off to a number of competitions including math, craftstick bridges, mousetrap car races, and egg drop packages. Between competitions, students were able to participate in a wide variety of science workshops ranging from lava lamps, solar cars, lasers, electromagnetism, REEF touch tanks, liquid nitrogen ice cream making, coding, and more! To top it off, our own Munan Yin won first place in both her bridge and mousetrap car design.
