San Marcos Prepares for Mock Trial

Over the Martin Luther King weekend, students from San Marcos High School hosted the 13th annual San Marcos Mock Trial Invitational tournament at the Santa Barbara Superior Court. More than 150 students and coaches from eight schools across the state presented their legal arguments and portrayed attorneys, witnesses, bailiffs and court clerks in a series of trials on Saturday and Sunday. In the case of People v. Cameron Awbrey the defendant is accused of human trafficking and false imprisonment. Students around California have been working with this case since September in preparation for upcoming county and state competitions. The San Marcos team is led by Luke Ohrn, along with local attorneys Barry Cappello, Leala Noel, Neil Levinson, Hilary Dozer and Joel Kriner. Local schools will compete in the Santa Barbara County competition on February 25 and March 4.
