Santa Barbara High Launches Dons Hall of Fame

Plans have been unveiled for an official Dons Athletics Hall of Fame honoring decades of talented athletes and achievement on the playing fields of Santa Barbara High School.

Over the years, Santa Barbara High (SBHS) has produced dozens and dozens of outstanding athletes who have represented the Dons in success, sportsmanship and tradition. From football to basketball from baseball to tennis, SBHS has also sent an incredible number of athletes on to the professional ranks as well as on to representing our nation in the Olympics.

“It is fitting that an athletics department so rich in history, tradition and success establishes a Hall of Fame to honor these outstanding achievements,” said SBHS Principal John Becchio.

The official SBHS Dons Athletics Hall of Fame, presented by the Ye Ole Gang, will hold its first Induction ceremony on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

To kick off the official Dons Hall of Fame, officials have assembled the previous honorees from the annual Ye Ole Gang gathering, spanning the past 43 years, and will officially induct this distinguished group into the newly created SBHS Dons Athletics Hall of Fame.

Established in 1974 by a group of former Dons celebrating everything special that is SBHS athletics, the Ye Ole Gang has honored each year those worthy of Dons Hall of Fame status.

This illustrious group of outstanding Dons will be joined by 2017 fellow inductees Peter and Gerd Jordano (special achievement), Alison Hardey (tennis), Randall Cunningham (football), and Ryan Spilborghs (baseball).

Tickets are available for the Dons Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner by visiting the  Ye Ol Gang website, yeolegang.com or by calling the school at (805) 966-9101, ext. 5006.
