This afternoon, December 16, 64 Harding University Partnership (HUPS) students and families were invited to campus to receive a special holiday surprise. As they entered room 18, they were greeted by Santa Claus and multiple Harding staff members. With the assistance of Santa helpers, each child was presented with her/her own “Santa Sack.” Each sack was filled with 10-15 personalized, wrapped gifts. Then, at the end of their individual visit with Santa, each child was treated to as cookies and hot chocolate.
This holiday event is possible because of the generosity and support of Hanna Drier and HUPS teacher Kimberly Lynch. Ms. Lynch networks with HUPS teachers to develop a list of students and their personalized needs. She then provides the list to Ms. Dreier who networks with extended friends and family involved to make each recipient’s Christmas a holiday to remember. More than 50 families adopted one or more children to provide about 1,000 personalized, wrapped and delivered gifts. Principal Veronica Binkley said, “The amount of coordination, dedication and generosity is astounding, but worth it all to see the joy and surprise on so many little faces. It was a magical moment and an amazing way to launch our holiday season.”
