Medal of Honor recipient Sammy Davis, also known as the “real Forrest Gump,” will give a special presentation to students on Thursday, November 10, at San Marcos High School during the school’s Veterans Day assembly. Students will be able to ask Davis questions about his story of personal bravery and self-sacrifice. The presentation will include a color guard, bagpiper and the National Anthem performed by the San Marcos High School Vocal Department.
Mr. Davis is sponsored by the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation. The PCVF is committed to honoring the men and women who have served in U.S. military efforts. PCVF does this by supporting veterans and active duty members in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties as well as preserving military history and legacy.
This assembly will also introduce the Medal of Honor Character Development Program, a resource designed by teachers to provide students with opportunities to explore the concepts of courage, commitment, sacrifice, patriotism, integrity and citizenship and how these values can be exemplified in daily life.
