Author Francisco Jimenez Engages La Cumbre Students

Dr. Francisco Jimenez, Principal Jo Ann Caines, and teacher Katie PelleOn Wednesday, November 2, 190 La Cumbre Junior High’s eighth-graders sat in rapt attention as they listened to noted author Francisco Jimenez, author of “The Circuit: Stories from the Life of a Migrant Child.” The book is required reading for La Cumbre’s eighth graders. Dr. Jimenez opened his presentation by thanking students for the heartfelt letters they had written to him about the impact of his book. It was evident he had been deeply touched by the students’ words. A professor emeritus at Santa Clara University, earlier this week Dr. Jimenez accepted UC Santa Barbara’s Luis Leal Award for Distinction in Chicano/Latino Literature.

Principal Jo Ann Caines said, “It was such a thrill for our eighth graders to meet and hear from the author of ‘The Circuit,’ a gripping story of a migrant child. Dr. Jimenez brought his story to life. Students were spellbound hearing from this award-winning man.”
