La Cumbre Students Help Launch Art Museum’s 75th Anniversary

Students outside the art museumLa Cumbre Junior High School’s Core Knowledge students, 180 seventh and eighth graders, helped celebrate the 75th anniversary at Santa Barbara’s Museum of Art on Friday, September 30. In 1941, when the museum first opened its doors, La Cumbre students were one of the first to view the incredible collection this local museum offers. Students, along with their teachers Valerie Galindo, Katie Pelle, and Chris Greeley, viewed art from World War I, and British Modernist artists, and then created their own triptych of realism, impressionism, and modernism pieces. The Core Knowledge students had studied British Modernism and WWI in their Core Knowledge class and were excited to see this history come to life through the eyes and hearts of various artists.
