Franklin School’s Summer Session Builds Math, Reading, and Swim Skills

In collaboration with the City of Santa Barbara, Franklin’s Summer School looks quite different. Twenty students entering third grade attend summer school at Franklin at 8:30 a.m. After their summer school session, they change and walk to the Franklin Neighborhood Center where they are transported to City of Santa Barbara pools and have swim lessons provided by City of Santa Barbara lifeguards. After their swim lesson is over, they return to Franklin, have lunch and head home. The collaboration between the City of Santa Barbara and Franklin Elementary School is changing students’ summers to provide life-long lessons by improving math and reading skills as well as swimming skills.
