Science Fair Projects Place Two District Students in National Science Recognition Program

Congratulations to La Colina Junior High School’s Rhea Kommerell and Goleta Valley Junior High’s Rebecca McKinny. Both students are nominees for the 2016 Broadcom MASTERS national middle school science competition. A letter to each school’s principal said, “A nomination distinguishes the student’s science fair project as among the top 10 percent in the United States this past school year.”

The top 300 semifinalists will be announced via email on September 6th, and the top 30 finalists will be announced on September 20th. The 30 finalists each win a trip to Washington, DC, where they will compete in hands-on science activities for the chance to win trips to STEM summer camps, iPads, and monetary prizes of up to $25,000. Rhea and Rebecca earned this opportunity by placing well at the regional science fair.
